Northcote Intermediates new Classroom block utilises Monarc Precast Concrete Wall Panels, Precast Stairs and Prestressed flooring in its construction. The Concrete structure will provide excellent Longevity, Strength and Durability for the new 2-level learning environment.
Through architectural design, Cultural symbolism is well protrayed in the building structure with external surface finishes and decorative designs.
- Roughsawn timber textures resonate with traditional Maori patterns requiring exceptional craftsmanship and accuracy in the carpentry mould setup pre concrete pour.
Forward planning of castings allow the Mould setup to be reused over multiple different size panels.
- Cultural feature symbols were portrayed through CNC Cut forms recessed into the Precast surface. Shapes were prepared with an architectural retarder applied to the recessed surface
following curing, shapes were removed and the recessed / retarded surface was washed away to expose the concretes beautiful dark inner aggregates.
The natural black Grey Wacke aggregates deliver a strong contrast between and the Portland grey F5 off the form finish of the concrete and the cultural symbolism.
